[English]

Aim: The aim of the present research is to design and validate a sustainable development education program model for the primary school curriculum in Iran.
Methodology: This research began with an exploratory mixed-method design. Initially, the theoretical foundations of education for sustainable development were examined through literature review and interviews with UNESCO experts. Then, using a quantitative approach, educational documents and curricula were analyzed. The research population included documents, curricula, and twenty selected professors. Information was collected using document analysis forms and interviews, achieving a validity coefficient of 0.93. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis and descriptive statistics, and the importance coefficient was calculated using the Shannon entropy method..
Findings: " In the qualitative phase, 33 components were found across four dimensions through document reviews and interviews. The quantitative analysis of Iran's higher education documents showed that none of these dimensions were sufficiently addressed, with the social dimension receiving the most focus and the cultural dimension the least. Additionally, the primary education curriculum analysis revealed an unsatisfactory level of attention to education for sustainable development in Iran's programs.
Conclusion and Suggestions: in the primary education curriculum, there has been limited attention to the elements of education for sustainable development. Certain components of this educational approach, such as HIV/AIDS education, sexual education, and gender equality, do not align with the cultural context and societal norms of our country. Consequently, when designing an educational program based on education for sustainable development, it is essential to take into account the culture and values of our nation. The model developed by the researcher for education for sustainable development is highly regarded by experts in the field in terms of its credibility.
Innovation and Originality: "Considering that the model for sustainable development education has not yet been developed and validated, this study focuses on the design and validation of this model specifically for the elementary education leve.
