Introduction: Universities should be responsible for the development of the country in which they operate. They should provide solutions through multi-stakeholder collaborations and develop tools and models to solve social problems. While the proposed green universities enable the production of green knowledge and innovation in their main process, higher education institutions are one of the main factors in achieving environmental sustainability both inside the academic environment and outside it in large communities. Accordingly, universities' knowledge and innovation generated by non-linear innovation models are critical because of the cascading effects on the entire education system, including secondary, primary and preschool levels. In this regard, it is necessary to reconfigure the traditional knowledge and innovation processes of universities to implement the non-linear five-helix innovation model. However, the transformation of economies is so complex that it requires the production and dissemination of multifaceted knowledge. Hence, the five-helix model as a fluid and heterogeneous innovation network is the superior strategy for knowledge creation and innovation in the direction of sustainable green knowledge development. But what is important in this regard is the reconfiguration of the university governance system to enable universities to produce green knowledge and innovation in a non-linear model of innovation, among which Mode 3 and the Five Helix are superior common and non-linear ways to Production of knowledge and innovation are green. Therefore, this research is designed with the aim of introducing the fifth generation university as a model for a green university.
Methods :This study is of a qualitative type and with a research synthesis approach, which was conducted with the content analysis method and with the help of meta-composition. As a result, firstly, with the analyzes conducted in the field of the Fifth Generation University and the Green University, coding and classification of the information obtained from the researches, and the models and theoretical bases in this field, the main categories and themes were extracted. In order to examine the background of previous researches and to combine the results of previous researches in the field of the components of the fifth generation university and the green university, to search in both Persian and English languages and from the keywords: green university, pentagonal spiral model and fifth generation university in Persian sources and The keywords Fifth Generation University, Greening Universities, Quintuple Helix Model were used in SID, Science Direct, Irandoc, PubMed, Iranmedex, Google scholar databases with all possible combinations in English sources. Based on pre-determined criteria and using Strobe checklist, suitable articles published in both English and Farsi languages on the components of the fifth generation university and Sabz University were selected and the content of the articles were carefully studied and analyzed. No time limit was considered for the search so that all related articles published until September 21, 2022 were retrieved.
Findings: The results showed that all the studies in this field were done after 2020. This indicates that this issue is one of the emerging challenges in the field of higher education, which has recently attracted the attention of researchers in the field of higher education. Also, out of the 37 studied studies, only 8 studies dealt with the components related to the research question, and by thematic analysis of the studies and the synthesis of the articles, 210 concepts or free codes were extracted and these concepts were co-coded in the form of 52 concepts. In the end, the related concepts were extracted under 6 final concepts including: 1- University governance, 2- Organizational culture, 3- The three elements of sustainability, 4- Green education, 5- Green research, and community communication in the form of selective coding.
Conclusion: It seems that according to the discussed topics, it can be expected that these six scientific concepts can exist together as an advanced knowledge-based university, evolve together, and have joint cooperation. be and compete with other spirals of the fifth generation university and be a model for the configuration of the green university management system.
