Abstract

Aim: Artificial intelligence-based education plays a vital role in improving learning methods and educational processes. By conducting research in this field, the applications of artificial intelligence will be more apparent. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the general aim of examining the views of professors on the use of artificial intelligence in teaching in the Iranian higher education system.
Methodology: This qualitative study employed semi-structured interviews for data collection. The research sample consisted of 12 professors (Three women and nine men) from public universities in Tehran and Karaj, selected through purposive sampling until theoretical saturation was achieved. Data analysis was conducted using MaxQDA version 22 software. Information validation was ensured through participant verification, member checks, re-examination of data collection pathways, and researcher self-review.
Results: Analysis of the findings from the interviews led to the identification of 4 main categories, namely (facilitating learning and acquiring skills, producing intelligent educational content, personalizing education, facilitating educational evaluation) and 56 subcategories.
Conclusions and suggestions: Given the important applications of artificial intelligence in education, university professors are advised to use artificial intelligence in their teaching, because the use of artificial intelligence is a basic requirement for updating students in terms of educational content and quality of learning, as well as access to educational content.
Innovation and originality: This study provides a fresh perspective by examining university professors' attitudes toward AI-enhanced teaching. Its insights can facilitate AI adoption in higher education and serve as a foundation for future research in the field.
